THE Hibs career of Abdessalam Benjelloun appears to be over after Egyptian champions Al-Ahly claimed they had signed the Moroccan international striker on a three-year deal worth around 500,000.

Hibs insist a deal has not yet been finalised, with talks due to continue, despite pictures appearing on the Egyptian club’s website of Benjelloun shaking hands with officials, but a spokesman for the Easter Road side said permission had given to the player to secure a new club, on the condition that the agreement suited all parties.
Benjelloun, 24, was signed by Tony Mowbray and scored 16 goals in 33 starts for Hibs – notably a double in the club’s 2007 CIS Cup final win over Kilmarnock, when they were managed by John Collins.
The departure of Collins led to Benjelloun falling out of favour under Mixu Paatelainen and going on loan to Belgian sides Charleroi and Roeslare, and while the arrival of John Hughes as Hibs manager offered hope he may return to Edinburgh, the player and the SPL side appear to have finally decided to go their separate ways.
